From Andrew Wagner of OnMilwaukee.com:

The Brewers have released right-hander Jeff Suppan, who was in the final year of a four-year contract.

Suppan 0-2 this season with a 7.84 ERA in 15 appearances. After starting the season on the disabled list, Suppan made two starts before being moved to the bullpen.

Since signing a $42 million contract with the Brewers after the 2006 season, Suppan posted a 29-36 record with a 5.08 ERA.

By releasing Suppan, the team clears space on both the 25 and 40-man roster, which will allow them to replace Todd Coffey, who was placed on the disabled list Sunday with a thumb injury.

EDIT: The JSBlog says the Brewers have purchased the contract of RHP Chris Smith from Nashville.
