Former day care operator gets probation in fraud case

A former day care operator whose center was used in Milwaukee crime boss Michael Lock's mortgage fraud machine was sentenced Thursday by a federal judge to five years of probation including eight months in home confinement.Nicole Brown, who operated Jasmine's House of Learning, also was ordered by U.S. District Judge J.P. Stadtmueller to repay a portion of nearly $169,000 - the amount from two fraudulent home sales Brown helped to facilitate.Brown was facing eight to 14 months in prison under federal sentencing guidelines. Her attorney, Jonathan Smith, asked for probation or home confinement because he said Brown is suffering from kidney failure and is waiting for a transplant.
